The Ohio Business Teachers Foundation, Inc.
The Ohio Business Teachers Foundation, Inc. (OBTF); awards grants in two categories: financial assistance grants and grants-in-aid. The availability of monies awarded each year depends upon the availability of funds. The OBTF Board of Trustees screens all applications. Acceptance of grant monies under either category REQUIRES the recipient to disseminate information about business/marketing education to business/marketing educators in Ohio. This dissemination may take one of several forms. (See below) Monies will not be distributed until all requirements have been met and the Notice of Grant Completion form and documentation has been submitted and approved.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANT: Financial Assistance Grant will be awarded to PROFESSIONAL educators as defined below whom, through research, investigation, and /or experimentation, can produce evidence of significant contributions to the field of business/marketing education.
GRANTS-IN-AID: Grants-in-aid will be awarded to GRADUATE students who demonstrate financial need. The recipient must select a research project that has significance to the field of business/marketing education.
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR: A professional educator is one who is currently employed as a teacher and/or administrator in business/marketing education in the State of Ohio; is a current member of the OBTA–An Association for Business Technology Educators, the Business Information Technology (BIT) Division of the Ohio Association of Career/Technical Educators (ACTE) and/or Ohio Marketing Education Association (OMEA) and has the equivalent of three (3) academic years of teaching in business/marketing education. An organization or OBTF Trustees are not eligible to apply for this grant.
GRADUATE STUDENT: A graduate student is one who (1) is pursuing course work above the baccalaureate level at an accredited Ohio institution; (2) is a current member of the OBTA–An Association for Business Technology Educators and/or the Business Information Technology (BIT) Division of the Ohio Association of Career/Technical Educators (ACTE) or Ohio Marketing Education Association (OMEA); and (3) is enrolled in course work for regular academic credit in business, business or marketing education, or a field directly related in an institution offering a Baccalaureate and higher degrees in these fields. An organization or OBTF Trustees are not eligible to apply for this grant.
Description of Appropriate Project
The results of the project will further Ohio business/marketing education. The project must be based all or in part on research and must impact the teaching and learning of business/marketing students of Ohio. Examples of appropriate projects include, but are not limited to, teaching methodology; innovative technologies; and innovative technical, industry or economically driven needs that directly impact the future of Ohio business/marketing education.
The grant requirements include the following:
Grant Application Form: Typed with complete information.
Abstract of Proposal: In 250 words or less, describe the purpose of the research/project, planned strategies, and anticipated outcomes.
Statement of the Problem and Need for the Project: Clearly define the problem and describe why there is a need for the project. Relate how the problem and/or need for the project will be based on research.
Objectives/Goals: List clear, realistic and measurable objectives/goals that address the problem and need for the project. The overall project must enhance the teaching/learning of business/marketing education in Ohio.
Project Activities and Timeline: Clearly list the activities, methods, or strategies that will be implemented to achieve the stated objectives/goals. Include a timeline for implementation of project activities.
Involvement of Research: Explain the degree to which research will be involved in this project (i.e., to support the need for the problem, project and/or project activities).
Project Evaluation: Describe how the project will be evaluated and outcomes measured by the grant recipient.
Budget/Budget Narrative: A detailed budget highlighting items that will be funded by this grant and an explanation of how grant funds will be used to support the project objectives. Grant monies may be used for supplies. Funds may also include up to 20 percent of monies awarded to support administrative/clerical costs. Funds may not be used to support scholarships; teacher substitutes; equipment; and professional development expenses including travel, lodging, meals, entertainment, and registration. Modifications to the approved budget must be submitted to the President for approval by the OBTF Board of Trustees.
Grant application form and required attachments must be submitted in hard copy and electronic (RTF or PDF format) to the President of OBTF by February 1 or October 1 of each year and will be reviewed bi-annually (see OBTF Grant Application form).
Public Dissemination of Research/Project Information
Public dissemination of research/project information will be in the form of a presentation at one of the following: the OBTA’s yearly convention, the BIT/ME Division of the Ohio ACTE’s Annual Conference, or Ohio BE/ME Conclave and one of the following:
a. Written report given to the OBTF Board of Trustees; or
b. An article written for publication in a professional business/marketing education magazine or journal; or
c. An article written for publication in a professional business industry magazine or journal; or
d. Digital presentation; such as DVD, website, recorded webcast, or video tape
Disbursement of Funds
The OBTF Board of Trustees will approve the release of funds at a bi-annual meeting upon the completion of the research project and the submission of the Notice of Grant Completion form. The Notice of Grant Completion form and documentation should be sent to the President of the OBTF Board of Trustees.
